Creating videos
MotionCut
Turn a raw narrated recording into a polished mix of presenter footage, product proof, and motion graphics.
Last updated September 2026
Start with a raw recording
Choose MotionCut from the desktop Library and add an MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM, MKV, or AVI recording. Poko copies the recording into its project workspace and leaves your original file unchanged.
- Choose MotionCut.
- Select the raw narrated recording.
- Create the project.
- Choose the output format in the normal Studio setup.
- Describe the finished video you want in chat.
How MotionCut prepares the footage
On the first request, MotionCut:
- Extracts a high-quality master audio track
- Transcribes speech with word-level timing
- Detects scene changes and silence
- Selects up to 50 representative frames
These references help the agent understand where the speaker, gestures, screen content, and useful empty space appear throughout the recording.
Long recordings are processed in safe transcription chunks and merged back onto the original media clock. The original speaker audio remains the authoritative timeline.
Presenter and motion work together
MotionCut decides when the presenter should own the frame and when product footage or motion should take over. It can use:
- Face-aware crops
- Punch-ins and zoom-outs
- Side-by-side layouts and picture-in-picture
- Transparent overlays and full-screen animated cutaways
It does not apply one centered crop to the entire recording.
Add product and brand context
Use Add media in Studio to attach a website URL, repo, files, folders, images, or brand assets. MotionCut aligns that evidence with the exact words being spoken, so a product screen, chart, logo, or animation appears when it supports the message instead of behaving like unrelated B-roll.
Write a useful first prompt
Describe the audience, destination, energy, and visual balance. Mention any moments that must remain presenter-led and any source material that should appear full screen.
Example prompt: “Turn this into a fast YC launch video. Keep me full screen for the opening and CTA, use the attached website for product proof, add clean motion graphics around the key numbers, and use smooth punch-ins rather than constant picture-in-picture.”
Strong MotionCut use cases
Use MotionCut for:
- Product Hunt and YC launches
- Founder demos and YouTube videos
- Instagram and Facebook posts
- Course lessons and tutorials
- Company updates
- Personalized sales or cold-email videos
Short social pieces can move quickly; longer lessons should use calmer, chapter-like visual changes.
